Breaktime / Overtime - Merch Store

For the Grasping at the Roots exhibition curated by Christina Battle at the Mitchell Art Gallery in 2020, Salas developed a participatory performance in which audiences could purchase objects commissioned for the exhibition. This intervention involved working with the curator, gallery director, and staff to negotiate the dynamics of setting up a store within the limits of a not-for-profit public institution, ultimately defying its traditional means of engagement. The objects – including screen-printed posters, tea towels, woodblock-printed aprons, and zines – were derived from The Supercake, a process-based collaboration with immigrant factory workers in London, Canada. Proceeds went towards the ongoing production of a publication with The Supercake collaborators.
